Animal Advocates – Support Your Local Animal Shelters

Robyn and her 4 legged friends

Jim and I live in Leander, TX and in addition to sharing our passion for Real Estate we share a passion for Loving and Helping Animals of all kinds. We volunteer our time at the local animal shelters and help promote animal care and awareness within our Community.  We have three dogs of our own, two of which have been adopted from local shelters.

We understand the financial burdens that Animal Shelters face. They are Non-Profit organizations that depend on State Grants and Private Donations in order for them to continue their work.  When times are tough available State Grants diminish and Private Donations decrease.

On average it costs $185 to prepare each animal for adoption including vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, microchip, daily care and feeding.

The ‘Central Texas SPCA’ is a No Kill Shelter in Leander, TX.  They depend on the help of State Grants and Private Donations in order for them to continue to provide help for the many abandoned animals that end up at the shelter.  We volunteer at this shelter and know the Director personally.  She is a giving and kind individual that has a true love for animals.  I adopted our Lucy from the first Adoption Day I worked.

Animal Rescuer and Advocate

Toby, is a 9 year old Cairn Terrier.  He is the gentle hearted guy in the family and his two sisters take advantage of his good nature.  He will melt you with his baby brown eyes.

Lucy, aka Lou is the baby of the family.  She is a 6 year old Jack Russell,  miniature Greyhound mix.  She was adopted at the first adoption day I volunteered with the CTSPCA.  I tell  Lucy she was the Sale of the Century, a $1,000,000 puppy for a $95 adoption fee.

Abby, is an 11 year old American Eskimo.  She is one of my closest friends.  I got her on a cold snowy  January night in Pennsylvania.  She looked like a little snowball.  The bond we share is only known by another animal lover.

Here are 8 puppies, 6 females and 2 males that Jim and I rescued from the side of the road in Manor, TX back in March.  The mother was nursing them along side the road and when cars went by she would chase them dragging nursing puppies with her. To our horror 4 little ones were left in the middle of the road eyes barely opened.  We pulled over to the side of the road to investigate and after speaking with a near by homeowner who told us that momma and pups were living in a drainage pipe near the road we gathered up the pups and brought them home.

We gave them all a flea bath with baby shampoo and fed them and for the next 4 days they lived in our jacuzzi tub. It has been a while since we had pups in the house that I forgot how often they wake up in the middle of the night hungry and crying for their momma. I thought I was going to die from lack of sleep.  Even though we fell in love with these guys, we knew we couldn’t keep them. Jim and I contacted the local Animal Rescues and Shelters in the area but they all had no room or accommodations for so many little ones. Then I got a call from Stacy with ‘From The Heart Rescue’ in Austin.  She agreed to take all 8 puppies, have them sprayed/neutered, wormed, vaccinated and microchiped at her own expense to be ready for adoption within the weeks to come. We are so very thankful to Stacy for her kindness and ongoing support to animals in need.

I almost forgot to mention that we went back to Manor and rescued the momma dog.  Even though she wasn’t reunited with her babies she was adopted by a wonderful women, Sharon who named her Patience.

‘From The Heart Rescue’ is an all volunteer, non-profit organization.  They receive no government funding and are not a United Way agency. Their life-saving work is supported solely by the loving contributions of individual donors. If you go to either of their websites you can make a donation via Pay Pal.  No donation is too small and your generosity will be greatly appreciated.

If you or anyone you know is thinking of  Buying or Selling Real Estate, call me to find out how the Purchase or Sale can  benefit  your Local Animal Shelter.
